Rain, Hail or Shine for the Lions

Twenty five stallholders bravedthe wind and rain for the Northam Lions CommunityMarketsheldon October 3.

Northam Springfield Footballclub members and President Charmian Shelfoutmannedthe barbeque on the day, selling sausages and goodies to raise money for their organisation.

Ten-year-old Nathan Wardattends the markets every week, rain hail or shine,with his father George and Mother Sharron, to play guitar and create a relaxed atmosphere for market-goers.

Northam LionsClub market coordinatorElRewell thanked the stallholders and community members for their dedication to the markets.

“The remaining 30 stall holders had contacted me and cancelled –which again is dedication,” she said.

Ms Rewell saidthe club is busy all year roundworking ondifferent projects andcommunity events.

“Our members very rarely having a weekend free,” she said.

“Many of our projects are not advertised, if you see Lions Mints andLions Xmas Cakes –these are a couple of our fund raising projects.”

Lion members regularly volunteer at rural shows andwill have twelve to fourteen members working at theToodyay Agricultural show next weekend.

Northam Lions are very active partners with Outward Bound Australia’s leadership course, sponsoring participants from St Joseph’s catholic school andNortham Senior High School.

The course is undertaken during the school holidays over twelve days, with the aim to challenge, motivate and inspire students in their future endeavours.

The club also fundraises forThe Northam Avon Hospice,Lions Cancer Institute,Lions Hearing Foundations of WA, Lions save sight foundations WA, Lions Drug education Foundation.

Ms Rewell said the Northam Lions,ofthirty-six members,arealways welcoming new volunteers.

“Lions are very fortunate to serve their communityand along the way make many friends, and acquaintances,” she said.

“We will continue to strive to make better times for those who are less fortunate than ourselves.”
