Two years ago Nightingale contested two rounds of the V8 Utes series, including racing at Bathurst. He was solid, but this time around is aimingfor top five.

He climbed as high as ninth place in the two V8 Utes practice sessions on Thursday, before finishing in 13th.

Nightingale’s best lap was a 2:34.400, while Ryal Harris was the quickest with a 2:31.5967.

It was pushing hard for a quick time in the opening session that saw Nightingale have a hairy moment. On lap four he made a mistake into Griffins Bend and the rear of his ute hit the left hand side wall.

Fortunately his #30 Sieders Racing Holden Commodoreonly sustained minor damage.

“I just broke wrong and then went to fourth and went to third and locked the rears up, it was my fault,” Nightingale said.

“The car felt really good, obviously it was still slippery, but it felt really good.

“It has gotspeed and that incident was my fault, I went in a little bit too hard and missed the braking point. I actually said before that session I would take it easy, but I think a bit of red mist came over me.

“But I felt good, the ute felt good. It was a bit taily, but we are still only on practice tyres. The Sieders guys have a fantastic car and a fantastic team.”

Nightingale will contest the opening race on Friday from 1.55pm.
