Homeless man remanded in custody

​A HOMELESS Camperdown drug user living on the streets has been remanded in custody for 10 days.

Brendan Luke Propsting, 33, of no fixed address​,​unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Courtand was remanded in custody until October 14.

He has been charged with trespass, thefts from a shop, using threatening words and unlawful assault.

Police said officers had extensive contact with Mr Propsting during the past couple of months while he had been homeless in Camperdown.

He has admitted substance abuse and has significant prior court appearances, particularly​in relationtostealingand drugs.

Officers claimMr Propsting behaviour​hadbecom​eincreasingly erratic and he has refused to engage with support services.

Police saidMr Propsting had been banned from​a number of ​shops in Camperdown but continued to attend at those premises including supermarkets.

He frightens staff,verbally abuses managers, demands credit and stole items including food and drinks.

Mr Propsting claimed he had not abused anyone, was always polite and well mannered and​indicated he ​would plead not guilty to the charges.

​In deny bail, magistratePeter Mellas said Mr Propsting had issues with​obtaining ​suitableaccommodation, was not taking medicationand the case against him was “pretty strong”.
